The Geotechnical Engineering Division of the Via Department of Civil
Engineering at University of Illinois provides unique graduate study and research opportunities. The primary focus is on soil mechanics, earth structures, foundation engineering, and the emerging area of environmental geotechnics. Research activities include both laboratory and in situ testing of soils, as well as computer analysis and design of earth structures. Throughout, emphasis is placed on measurement of soil properties and practical applications of modern numerical methods in engineering practice. The program goal is to provide students with a fundamental understanding of soil behavior and the capability of dealing with a variety of practical problems.
